Psalm 20 is a beautiful reminder that the battle belongs to the Lord. Things might look hopeless, but he longs to give us the desire of our heart. And when we anchor our trust in Him (instead of our own "chariots"), we can rise up and stand firm.

Pop Quiz! Our annual "lifeguard stand" family pic took a record 92 seconds this year. Can you spot:
1) The kid throwing up
2) The pitcher of palomas (the guy swore to me that it was NOT in the frame 😂)
3) The missing person (who had a golf trip conflict, a calendar mix-up over which he was no doubt devastated)

(And yes, the child running thru the background IS with us; we'll try to give him better placement next year.)

The photo shoot - it feels grand, calling it that; the photographer (a guy we grabbed off the beach) literally snapped just the ONE picture - was last weekend, and now everyone except me has gone home. I'm sitting here in my favorite place in the whole world 👉, savoring the memories and reflecting on what God has done - and is doing - in our lives. Like every family, we have our "stuff", from life transitions to health concerns to parenting questions to unmet longings & not-yet answered prayers, and I am beyond grateful for a few extra days to process it all and pray for my people.

Coincidentally 😉, a dear friend just texted me a chapter from a short little book she is reading called "Duties of Parents." Originally written by J.C. Ryle, a fellow who lived in the 1800's, the language has been updated a bit but the material is old-old school and solid ... and I loved the pages on prayer. Swipe thru to the last slide and maybe ponder the questions as you talk to God about your own people this summer.

(Also the audio on this post was on repeat throughout our long weekend, as one of the grandkids - whose nickname is "Jukebox" - was fresh off a VBS week and ready to sing. Catchy tune, right? Kinda stays with you... like, a lot. 😂)
